Here are 4 updates on what we’ve been up to as a family in amidst ministry with InterVarsity in October & November.
I (Beth) was able to have sinus surgery on October 10 – thanks to your prayers, and an extra nice nurse who went out of her way to work with our tight minister schedule.
Recovery from the surgery itself was fairly easy, but my migraines flared up while the nerves & tissues in my face were inflamed and I was in severe pain for weeks. It was a terribly difficult and discouraging time, but God showed so much grace in allowing me to be healthy for the ‘big events’ like Homecoming and Fall Conference, which brought so much joy.
My breathing and sinus pressure is much improved, and I have been infection-free! Praise God! While the migraines have calmed down in recent weeks, it will still be months before we know if the surgery will help my headaches long term. Please continue to pray – and know your prayers are not in vain. The Lord has wrought so much deep peace in my heart through allowing so much suffering.
We pray as much for each of you – that you’d be drawn near to Christ in your hardships. We especially pray that this is true as you enter the season of Advent; may your longing for Christ grow deeper amidst all that needs healing.
HOME LIFE –
We’ve loved having more time with friends and our church family this fall. I (Beth) continue to lead a women’s book study at church, and Julian is still in preschool 2 mornings a week. He loves super heroes (that’s him above dressed as Captain America) and he loves music. With a job that requires so much travel, we have been grateful for the times of regular fellowship and routine at home.
As many of you know, Eric started a DJ side business (Surf & Sound Events) about a year ago and we have been blessed by the extra income that it brings, helping us make ends meet while we continue to raise support. He’s really enjoyed getting to work with people outside of our ministry sphere and loves the technical, hands-on part of the job.
He’s currently doing DJ & sound-engineering work within a 3 hour drive of Newport News – so please refer him if you know of anyone needing sound services for a wedding reception or party. Check out his business Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SurfandSoundEvents.
Over Thanksgiving break we traveled to KY to visit Eric’s extended family. We took a detour on the way back to enjoy the scenery of West Virginia – here we are at Hawks Nest State Park in Anstead, WV. It was a refreshing trip and a reminder of God’s majesty in nature.
