Student Spotlight: Abby’s Testimony

When I transfered to CNU in Spring 2015 one of the biggest things for me was finding a Christian family to be a part of as I made my journey through college. Last fall my roommate Kayla invited me to join her and my other roommate Sammi at Intervarsity‘s chapter retreat.

Up to that point I was sort of involved with other ministries but not really invested and hadn’t found a place I thought of as home.  I hate going places where I don’t know what to expect. I also don’t like being surrounded by a bunch of people I don’t know. So this retreat was a big step for me.

However, the moment I stepped in to the lodge, Collin, whom I had never met, came right up to me and exclaimed with excitement, “Hi! I am so excited you’re here!” And that was it. I knew that I would be able to be me in this group, even before I took three steps into the room. If a complete stranger could be that excited that I, me Abby, had come to that retreat, then I for sure could fit in here.

The only reason I was able to go to that retreat was because I got a scholarship from IV. Money was the one legitimate excuse I gave my roommate as to why I shouldn’t go with her. But because I had a scholarship I am now a part of a beautiful family that encourages me and I can encourage and support.

This year I am a small group co-leader, so I have the opportunity to engage with and walk through life with a group of girls in a unique and special way. Your support of this chapter has helped in bringing new people to retreat just like me last fall. Thank you for supporting my chapter here at CNU so that we can continue to spread the love of God and bring more people into our family!
